Whilst sailing south from Fernando de Noronha, a huge dolphinfish took our bait but put up a fierce struggle. After battling to reel it in for over half an hour, the creature won the combat, taking with it the bait as well as 50 metres of our broken line. 2 days later, another monster touched our bait, we did not even see what it was, but this time, it simply chomped off the bait, leaving us just its teeth marks on the broken line. During our journey towards Rio de Janeiro, a monstrous swordfish flipped out of the water, pulling the bait and line at high speed. Not even a chance to try to reel it in, as the fishing rod snapped into 2 just after several seconds!  Undeterred, Laurent thereafter simply trails the bait tied to a sturdy line that is in turn attached to the deck cleat. We have since been rewarded with a tuna (a 'thunnus obsesus'), and further south, on our way to Rio Grande do Sul, we pulled in a 1.10 metre long male dolphinfish.

  1. Just returned from Japan...thought that the sashimi there was the freshest that we ever had...but your catch trumps them all!
