Despite all the recommendations of everyone who knows Argentina to venture into the Rio de la Plata and spend some time in Buenos Aires and to sail up the river Lujan to the town of Tigre, our timing, being a little short, pushes us to sail right pass the entrance of the Rio de la Plata and head straight to Mar del Plata, with maybe, the possibility to then visit the Argentinean capital by bus.  Finally, we spend just a few days in Mar del Plata, at the marina of Yate Club Argentino, finishing our final preparations and resting a little before the long journey towards Ushuaia. The decision not to leave the boat and head inland (by bus) is facilitated by the fact that we can purchase all that we need here in Mar del Plata, and that the 'courtesy period' of free berthing by the Yate Club has been unfortunately reduced from one week to 2 days (the berthing fee is a little beyond our budget...). Here we meet a few sailing yachts heading south (the 'last' batch? we don't know, if there are still yachts up north or in the Rio de la Plata going on the same route?). Two yachts leave 2 days before us, and we ourselves, with Anja and Thomas of S/Y Robusta, from Switzerland, set our sails on the evening of 30 December for the first half of the big journey south (600 nautical miles)  towards the first sheltered anchorages of Argentina Patagonia, known in the sailing circle as 'Patagonia's cruising ground'.
