Rio Grande - dernière escale au Brésil_last stop in Brazil

Our final stop in Brazil will be fondly remembered for its natural settings and wonderful new friends. Rio Grande starts to unfold the wilder scenery of South America that we have long since been dreaming of. At sea we start to see our first albatros, magnificent with their wing span that can extend to 3 metres. Right from the entrance into the Rio we encounter our first sea lions, which, on their journey of migration, venture into the estuary. Galatée berths at the visitor's pontoon of the Yacht Club of Rio Grande (where Vito Dumas once visited), just next to the pontoon of the oceanographic museum.  Being just on the river bank, we appreciate the wilderness of the river, its little islands, with a large variety of birds chirping and waking us up in the early mornings. With Jens, Lutz and Ariana of S/Y Chiloé (from Germany, who arrived just 2 hours before us from Argentina and are sailing northwards), we spend a few relaxing days (notably after the strong winds both yachts encountered before entering the rio) together, sharing sailing information, receiving especially lots of pointers (maps and guide books and travel tips) from Jens regarding Buenos Aires and the Rio de la Plata, sharing as well a bit of DIY and a couple of great evenings in the pubs and restaurants nearby.  2 days after our arrival, Carlos and Edith of S/Y Breila (from Uruguay) who we met earlier on in Porto Belo arrive. Having been seriously 'shaken' at the entrance of Rio Grande due to rough waters, they are towed by a tug boat and berth in front of us : Genoa torn and irreparable,  and a broken rib for Carlos...  We complete the final exit papers for Brazil (with just a little bit of complexity and taxi fares to cover the long distances, as usual) and bid farewell to our new friends in the early morning of 20 December. Destination Uruguay or Argentina? We shall let the weather decide for us!
